Heptranchias perlo (BONNATERRE, 1788)

 

Description after BASS et al. 1975: [#134]:

The teeth of a 94cm male are shown in pl. 4. No sexual dimorphism was apparent in the few adult jaws examined. Tooth counts (for the large major teeth) were always 5-1-5 in the lower jaws and usually 10- 0, sometimes 9-9 or 11-11, in the uppers (in 11 sets of jaws). Australian specimens of H. perlo sometimes have six large teeth on each side in the lower jaws (see table 2 of Garrick and Paul 1971).
